Goals before turning 30

I’ve never given great importance to age; I feel everyone lives his own story, and there is no such thing as “things you have to achieve before you turn…” I really feel that you are as old as you feel and that you need to live your experiences and evolve at your own pace.

A couple of years ago I realized I wanted to improve some parts of my life and I picked a significant date to achieve my goals: my 30th birthday (coming up soon).
Identifying which changes and evolutions I wanted for myself – avoiding society clichés as marriage, kids etc – was not easy at first, but little by little my wishes became clearer.

Stop worrying about the future, stay focused on the present.

“Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present”. No truer sentence. Yet many people – including me – constantly worry about what they could have done differently in the past, or what they will do in the future. Where will I live, which job will I have, where do I see me in 10 years, when should I have kids…. These are surely legitimate questions, but be present and fully live the moment is also a very important thing, that is sometimes forgotten.

Love and respect my body more

Many women do not fully like their bodies, partly because of the pressure we get from the fashion world (which basically communicates that you can be either skinny or curvy, ‘normal weight’ is just not taken in consideration). It is not easy to accept and love your body as it is, but it’s the best gift you could do to yourself (along with having the healthiest life possible).

Spend money on things I care about

When I earned my first salaries I used to spend a lot of money in frivolous things like clothes (a lot of cheap ones). That was until I realized such purchases did not bring me joy at all, at most a very brief thrill. I’ve then started spending my money in some things that actually make me happy: a good dinner with some friends, a vacation, tickets to get back home whenever I feel like… Basically experiences that I can share with my family and friends to live good moments and build lasting memories.

Have longer moments to myself

I am a really organized and quite active person. I dedicate a lot of time to family, friends, our home… I can spend most part of my days taking care of things, whereas I sometimes would need and like some quiet alone time to relax, read and write. It is difficult for me to stop and chill, but it is definitely something I am going to do more.
